S.&P. 500 closed at 896.78, 58.27 (6.10%) down
Dow (DJIA) closed at 8,519.21, 514.45 (5.69%) down
Nasdaq closed at 1,615.75, 80.93 (4.77%)
Wachovia has lost 23.9 billion dollars in the third quarter, most of it "paper loss" on write-offs, but still - ouch!
